Welcome to my Web site!
Thanks for dropping by! If you read
a little about me on my homepage, you know that I'm a stay-at-home
physician's wife with 4 children. As of August 2004, I added a
new responsbility to my other regular household duties: I began
homeschooling our children. Since I have a (lapsed) teaching
certificate in English secondary education, being a teacher isn't too much
of a stretch for me. However, teaching my own 4 children at home (they
are each two grades apart) has definitely been a challenge, but one that I
trust will ultimately be worthwhile. Not surprisingly, though, I've
had to set many of my other pursuits aside, at least temporarily, in order
to focus on our family's home and school life. From time-to-time,
however, I get pulled back into some of those activities -- one of which is
doll collecting.
ALL THINGS SASHA
A few short years ago, if anyone had told me that I'd be
collecting dolls at this stage in my life, I'd have thought they were crazy!
Oh, I'd loved dolls as a child and played with them longer than most of my
peers. But I gave them up without a second thought once I started Junior
High -- that is, until I inadvertantly discovered a major
going-out-of-business-sale at an online doll store (idolls.com, for those of
you who remember that website). My daughters were 3 and 7 at the time. To
make a long story short, I ended up buying bunches of clothes, then had to
get the dolls to go with them. And before I knew it (owing to my hording
personality), I'd accumulated quite a stash of doll stuff -- way more than
my daughters would ever need! Somewhere along the way, however, I'd decided
I should begin collecting playdolls for my daughters. After all, I had
bunches of playdolls already, some of which would make great collectibles
(and they could be played with, to boot!). I started researching different
types of collectible playdolls and I came across Sashas. Gotz was just
getting ready to halt their production of them, so I knew I needed to act
quickly and get a couple of dolls for my daughters, while I could still find
them. But the more I looked into which doll(s) to get, the more hooked I
became, personally. And when I saw my first '60's Frido blonde, it was love
at first sight. Previously, I'd only seen the newer Trendon and Gotz Sashas
-- and while appealing, they didn't produce the same kind of emotion for me
as the older Frido and Gotz dolls. That was the beginning of my Sasha
collecting, as I bought that first 60's blonde gingham.
Although I'm still relatively young to Sasha collecting, I love learning
more about the dolls and always enjoy seeing other people's collections. So
I thought this would be a good place for fellow collectors and other
interested folks to see some of the dolls I have. Eventually I hope to post
some pictures of dolls present and past from my collection in the "Photo
Gallery". By clicking on the "Interests" heading, you'll also see a few
dolls for sale. Because I must fund my (unfortunately expensive)
habit, my collection is constantly evolving, as I "replace" some of my
Sashas, usually in order to finance others that are higher on my priority
list. You'll also find some links to other terrific Sasha sites on my
homepage and (when I eventually get to it), the "Favorites" section below.
18" DOLL STUFF
Because of the overabundance of dolls and doll items I've
accumulated, I've had to become an occasional doll vendor. Right now, I
have lots of stuff (clothing, shoes, accessories and furniture) designed
primarily for 18" dolls. The majority of the items were designed for
American Girl sized dolls. But I also have a few items for 18" slim (Magic
Attic sized) dolls -- and of course, some of the clothing and furniture
might even work for my beloved Sashas, and a few other similarly sized
dolls. In the future, I hope to add links to my non-Sasha doll items for
sale. For now, it's still a work in progress ...
